YOU HAD ME AT BONJOUR - Ep. 7 - "Collaboration"

Dec 14, 2023

Have you been listening to me or what?

How do we even know we’re being heard by the one we love?

My guest Amy Dresner and I explore the idea of collaboration and the give and take we may or may not be experiencing in relationships.

Learn how why this is so important for healthy empowering relationships and listen in as Amy makes some of her most stunning and honest admissions thus far. Also, it’s hilarious as usual.

My guest Amy Dresner is a journalist, author, and former comedian as well as a recovering addict and alcoholic. She was a regular columnist for the addiction/recovery magazine theFix.com since 2012 and has freelanced for Addiction.com, Psychology Today, Vice, Salon and many other publications.

Her first book, “My Fair Junkie: A Memoir of Getting Dirty and Staying Clean,” was published by Hachette in 2017 to rave reviews from critics and readers alike. Elle magazine compared Dresner’s darkly comic memoir to Carrie Fisher’s “Postcards from the Edge” and Mary Karr’s “Lit,” calling Dresner’s book “one for the ages.”

Dresner has appeared on the television show The Doctors and on numerous radio shows and podcasts, including Dr. Drew, Dopey and Rich Roll. She does regular speaking engagements around the U.S. She is the co-host to Joe Schrank of the new Rehab Confidential Podcast. Her book is currently in development for a TV series.

In This Episode:

[0:55} Amy’s had too much mate!

[1:45] One of the ways we collaborate is taking turns. Amy’s been working on this already and is honest enough to admit not only to “monologuing,” but that she even tried to blame it on her phone. LOL

[3:42} Amy goes to the hot chiropractor and tries not to flirt…

[5:27] Five more days till Amy can contact a dude she took 30 days off from… and calls herself out on the transference.

[7:00] BRAVEST THING SAID ALOUD BY ANYONE EVER IN A VLOG. Dig. It.

[10:43] “I’m scared. In the world. No one knows that.”

[12:30] How does it affect your relationships when you attempt to dominate the other person?

[17:34] We see that Amy is anxious in romantic relationships and avoidant in friendships.

[18:09] If we don’t allow the other person to reflect back to us what they’ve heard, how do we know they’ve heard us? Instead we miss out on the chance to be seen and to be heard– which is to be loved.

[20:03] Amy realizes that yes, many times she is testing people to see if they’ll stick around no matter what she throws at them.

[22:33] There’s only one Amy Dresner “thanks god.” We love you just the way you are Amy.
